aCommunityRatingSystem(CRS)Class6ranking,animprovementfromourpreviousClass7
rank,bytheDepartmentofHomelandSecurity,FederalEmergencyManagementAgency
(FEMA).Ourfloodplainmanagementactivitiesimplementedbyourcommunity,viatheNational
FloodInsuranceProgram(NFIP),qualifiedCamdenCountyfora20%discountinthepremium
costoffloodinsuranceforNFIPpoliciesissuedorrenewedinSpecialFloodHazardAreas.This
isanadditionalsavingsof5%overlastyear.ThesediscountsbecomeeffectiveonorafterMay
1,2017.
Thereductioninfloodinsurancepremiumsappliestoresidentslivingintheunincorporated
areasofCamdenCounty.Thenewratingnotonlyreducesthoseinsurancepremiumsbutitalso
enhancespublicsafety,preservesthenaturalfunctionsoffloodplains,andprotectsproperty.“I
commendCountystafffortheircontinuedcommitmenttosavingtaxpayer’smoneyandmaking
Camdenmoredisasterresistant,”saidSteveHoward,CountyAdministrator.“Staffwere
instrumentalinleadingthewayforthisnewClass6ranking.”
CamdenCountyenteredintotheCRSProgramin2013andmaintainedaClass8ratingthrough
2014.AClass7rankingwasachievedinJanuary2015,wherebypolicyholdersimmediately
startedreceivinga15%discountinthefloodhazardareaanda5%discountonpoliciesoutside
thefloodhazardarea.AsaresultoftheimprovementtoaClass6ranking,policyholdersin
unincorporatedCamdenCountynowqualifyfora20%discountinthepremiumcostofflood
insurance,generatinganestimatedsavingsof$145,845.00/year.
