hascompleteditsmostrecentreviewofCamdenCountyFireRescueandaffirmedthe
department’sPublicProtectionClassification(PPC)of04/10.MostU.S.insurersofhomeand
businesspropertiesuseISO’sPPCincalculatingpremiums.Ingeneral,thepriceofinsurancein
acommunitywithalowerPPCratingislessthaninacommunitywithahighPPC,assumingall
otherfactorsareequal.
Allhomesandbusinesseslocatedwithinfiveroadmilesofafirestationorwithin1,000feetofa
firehydrantareeligiblefortheISO4rating.Class10appliestopropertiesover5roadmilesofa
recognizedfirestation.ISO’sPPCisbasedprimarilyonthequalityofacommunity’sfire
department(50points),watersupply(40points)andemergencycommunications(10points).
“MaintainingourISO4designationisagreataccomplishmentforCamdenCountyand|applaud
FireRescueforachievingthisgoal,”saidCountyAdministratorSteveHoward.“TheBoardof
CountyCommissionershavespentnearly$3milliondollarsinnewandupgradedequipmentover
thepastfiveyearsandwearehappytoseethisinvestmentalsopayingdividends,”added
Howard.
InterimFireChiefTerrySmithalsowelcomedtheISOreport.“CamdenCountyFireRescueisa
ruralfiredepartment,inmostcaseswedon’thavethebenefitofhydrantsandhavetohaulour
waterwithus.Thisisnotaneasytask,soanISOratingof4showcasesthededicationandtalent
ofourfirefighters.”
