Services(DFCS).
TheBoardofFamilyandChildrenServicesplayavitalroleinhelpingtomaketheDivisionofFamily
andChildrenServices’programsmoremeaningfultothefamiliesandchildrentheyaredesignedto
serve.EachBoardMemberisconsideredalinkbetweentheCountyDepartmentofFamilyand
ChildrenServicesandthelocalcommunity.BoardMembers,withthehelpofagencystaff,acquire
generalknowledgeofDivisionprogramsandinterprettheobjectivesoftheprogramstolocalcitizens.
EachBoardMembershouldalsoaddressattitudesandperceptionsofthecommunitytoward
programsbymakingrecommendationstotheCountyDirector.BoardMembersarealsoexpectedto
assistininterpretinghumanserviceprogramstolocalofficialsinordertogainsupport,secure
additionalfundingforspecificneedsbeyondstateappropriations,andtosetstandardsforthe
expenditureofcountyfunds.EachmemberisencouragedtolookbeyondtheservicesofFamilyand
ChildrenServicesandassistincollaborationandcoordinationwithotheragencies.
TheBoardisanactiveliaisontothegeneralpublicwhosecontinuingsupportisnecessarytothe
successoftheoverallmissionoftheDivision.TheroleoftheCountyBoardcarriesacombinationof
advocacy,resourcedevelopment,politicalactivism,staffrelations,customerserviceand
administrativefunctions;allofwhichareimportanttotheDivisionandCountyDepartment.
ElectedofficialsoftheState,oranypoliticalsubdivisionofthestate(countyorcity,etc.)maynotbe
appointedtotheCountyBoard,O.C.G.ASection49-3-2(a).Publicassistancerecipientsmaynotbe
appointedtothecountyboardsincetheappointmentofapublicassistancerecipientwouldcreatean
illegalconflictofinterest.BoardMembersservewithoutcompensationexceptfortheperdiemrate
establishedbytheDepartmentofHumanResourcesandreimbursementfortravelandother
expensesincurredintheperformanceoftheirofficialduties.Thetermofofficeformembersisfive(5)
years,beginningonJuly1,andarestaggeredsothatonetermexpireseachyear.
