jointprojectofCamdenCounty,theCitiesofKingslandandSt.Marys,andtheGeorgia
DepartmentofTransportation(GDOT),cametolifeoveradecadeago.Recently,landclearing
andorangeconstructionbarrelswerenoticeablealongthestretchofColerainRoadwestofI-95.
“TheBypass,whichwillbeafour-laneimprovedroadwayproject,initspresentform,isthe
productofmanyyearsofstudy,planningandpublicinput,”saidCountyAdministratorSteve
Howard.“In2004and2016,CamdenCountywitnessedthedevastatingeffectsthathurricanes
canhaveonpeopleandpropertyalongthesoutheasterncoastlineoftheUnitedStates.Past
evacuationshaveshownthecurrentroadway,atwo-laneroad,doesnothavethecapacityto
handleanevacuationinatimelyandefficientmanner.Theneedandpurposeoftheproposed
projectidentifiedtheconstructionofaBypassproject,resultinginafour-laneimprovedroadway,
