theCamdenCountyBoardofCommissionerscreatedanewEducationandWorkforce
SubcommitteeoftheSpaceportCamdenSteeringCommittee.TheEducationand
WorkforceSubcommitteewillbecomprisedoflocaleducators,universityandtechnical
collegerepresentatives,andaerospaceexperts.
“NowthattheenvironmentalsubcommitteehassubmitteditscommentsontheSpaceport
CamdenDraftEnvironmentalImpactStatement,wearemovingtoanewphaseinthe
project,”saidCountyAdministratorandSpaceportCamdenProjectLead,SteveHoward.
“We'vereceivedsignificantinterestfromthespaceindustryinourprojectanditis
imperativethatwebegintheprocessofaddressingtheirfuturehiringneeds,”added
Howard.
TheSpaceportCamdenEducationandWorkforceSubcommitteewillworkcloselywith
K-12educatorsintheschooldistrictsacrosssoutheastGeorgiaaswellastheUniversity
SystemofGeorgiaandtheTechnicalCollegeSystemofGeorgiatoencourageSTEM
(science,technology,engineering,andmath)educationanddevelopcurriculathat
supportsfuturespaceportusers.
“We’veheardfromlocaleducatorsaboutthetremendousSTEMvalueSpaceport
Camdenoffersourstudentsandwewanttoensurewearemaximizingthose
opportunities.Inaddition,ourTechnicalCollegesareanimportantpartoftheSpaceport
