CountyBoardofCommissionersvotedtoapprovespending$387,600inAmericanRescuePlan
Act(ARPA)fundingtowardsthenewCamdenCountyHealthDepartment.Thisisthefinal
approvalforthejointcity-countycollaborationtofundthenewfacility.
“WethinkthisisagooduseofARPAfundsforourcommunitybecausethenewfacilitywillbea
benefittopublichealthandallCamdenCountyresidents,”saidCommissionChairmanGary
Blount.“Sinceinitialplanningforthebuilding,constructioncostshaveincreased.”
Theprojectcostforthenewfacilityis$4.5million.Fundingisprovidedby:
SpecialPurposeLocalOptionSalesTax(SPLOST)VIIIfor$1.2million;
e
CommunityDevelopmentBlockGrantCOVID(CDBG-CV)for$1million;
e
CoastalGeorgiaPublicHealthfor$800,000;and
e
Women,Infants,andChildren(WIC)for$300,000.
e
Theremaining$1.2millionwillcomefromthecollaborationbetweenCamdenCountyandthe
CitiesofKingsland,St.Marys,andWoodbine.Basedonpopulation,CamdenCountyisproviding
$387,600,theCityofKingslandiscontributing$378,840,theCityofSt.Marysisfunding$399,960,
andtheCityofWoodbineisadding$33,600.
The$1.2millionininSPLOSTVIIIfundingwasapprovedbyCamdenCountyvotersinMarch
2019.Thisone-centsalestaxispaidbyallresidentsandvisitorsthatpurchasegoodsinCamden
County.SPLOSTVIIIbegancollectioninJuly2019andconcludesinJune2025.
