SafetyActionProjectFunding
WOODBINE,Ga.June7,2023TheCamdenCountyBoardofCommissionersis

pleasedtoannounce$180,000infundingfromtheGeorgiaDepartmentofTransportation’s
(GDOT)SafetyActionProject(SAP)grant.Thisisinadditiontoapreviouslyawarded$170,000
infunding,bringingthetotalto$350,000fromSAP.
“WearethankfultoGDOTfortheadditionalSAPfunding,”saidCamdenCountyAdministrator
ShawnM.Boatright.“TheircontinuedinvestmentsinCamdenCountygreatlyimproveroad
infrastructureandprovideforsaferroadsforCamdenCountyresidentsandvisitors.”
TheSAPispartoftheLocalMaintenance&ImprovementGrant(LMIG)andseekstoinvestin
improvementstothesafetyofcountyandcityroadsystems.Theprogramfocusesonlow-cost
safetyimprovementthatcanbeimplementedonspecificroutesthatarelikelytoreducethe
frequencyandseverityofcrashesandroaddepartures
ThisfundingwillbeusedforshoulderwideningandthermoplasticstripingonHorseStampChurch
RoadinnorthernCamdenCounty.CombinedwiththewideningandresurfacingofHorseStamp
ChurchRoad,theoverallprojectcostisover$2.9millionintotal,including$2.6millioninSpecial
PurposeLocalOptionSalesTax(SPLOSTVIII)funding.
“TheSAPfundsfromGDOTwillallowustospendlesslocaltaxpayermoneyontheHorseStamp
ChurchRoadproject,”saidPublicWorksDirectorShalanaMcNamee.“Ourlocalfundswillbe
usedonotherroadsinunincorporatedCamdenCountyidentifiedbyGDOT,includingDoverBluff
RoadandHarriettsBluffRoad.”
